CONCERT DRESS CODE
The Argyle music dress code is intended to be a professional representation of the performing ensemble. The music department is continuously adapting to make the concert dress code inclusive and comfortable for all its students. If for any reason, a student is unable to secure appropriate attire, please reach out to the instructor at
least two weeks prior to a scheduled performance. We never encourage students to seek brand new clothes if a used option is readily available at home, or at a nearby thrifting centre. Students are welcome to bring in samples and/or send pictures to their instructors before making new purchases.
Concert Dress MAY change due to the nature of the concert (thematic program, weather, etc.). This will be discussed with students in advance.
The current basic suggested attire is as follows:
● TOP: Black top
● BOTTOM: Floor Length Black Dress OR Pants, Black Socks & Black Shoes
● No Emblems, logos, stripes, or jewelry that cause audible sound or reflection of light
OR
● Henkaa Dress (sold until 2022), Black dress shoes
Families should consider appropriate attire for the stage that is comfortable for the performer, and not distracting. Performers will be standing and/or sitting at various heights throughout the year depending on the sizing and height of the stage for extended periods of time. It is imperative that the attire is accommodating to
these varied scenarios.
In general, look for fabrics that are comfortable, sleek, and show a ‘polished look’, and footwear that is completely black.
Please avoid logos, distracting patterns, colours that are ‘off black’, and clothes that will not serve multiple performance situations. Certain patterns and fabrics may look black (such as sequin boots) under regular conditions but could look overtly dramatic under stage lighting. Please refer to the Argyle Music Handbook for visual examples of suitable concert wear.
