Argyle’s BABY GRAND PIANO is looking for a new home…

Our BABY GRAND (43 years at Argyle) is ready to be retired to a new caring home as we are receiving a newer KAWAII Baby Grand at the end of June 2021 for the choir room. With some TLC and a little work this piano will last and return to life. ( 5’9″) and padded bench and a green cushioned protective cover.
If you would like this piano or know of someone who could use it, please contact me at froberts@sd44.ca or call the music office at 604-903-3300.
We will be happy to have the new owners pay for the transport of it to be removed from Argyle and a DONATION to the Music Dept.
Piano movers will be available June 23 or 24, 2021 while moving our new piano in.
Please pass on the word so that we can find a home for our piano.
Many thanks,
Mrs Roberts

Dear Parents & Families,

In past years, the Argyle Music Program has hosted an annual Cabaret event which features students in Argyle’s jazz bands and acts as a fundraiser for graduating music students. Due to restrictions on gatherings and performances that the province is currently under, we are unfortunately unable to plan for this event.

While we cannot host Cabaret in our usual capacity, we would like to continue with the silent auction portion of our event in hopes to raise some funds for music scholarships for our graduating students. We are currently seeking donations for our Silent Auction. Please see attached a letter from our Argyle Music Association with more information.

I know Cabaret is an event that many students, families, and members of the community (myself included!) look forward to, and I look forward to the time when we can gather, celebrate, and share music together in a live setting again. In the meantime, I would like to ask for your support for the online silent auction event that our AMA members are organizing. Funds for this event go towards Argyle Music Scholarships that all music students are eligible to apply.

Thank you again for continuing to support your children in the music program. I look forward to the day when we can share music with each other and celebrate our students’ growth in person together.

Regards,
Diana

Hi everyone,

It’s been recently brought to my attention that the Band 10-12 course names appear as “instrumental music” on the course selection sheet. I’ve looked at the course selection sheet and wanted to provide the following updates on which course names refer to which class on the course selection sheet:

Concert Band = Band 9
Instrumental Music 10 = Band 10
Instrumental Music 11 = Band 11 (X Block)
Instrumental Music 12 = Band 12 (X Block)

Jazz Band 9 – 12 = Jazz Band 9 – 12 (X Block)

Orchestra 9 – 12 = Strings 9 – 12 (X Block)

Beginning Band 8 – 10 is a new course being offered to students who have NO prior experience in band (does not apply to anyone receiving this email)

My apologies for the confusion here. I will be working with counsellors and admin in future years to ensure we are using the same language in the course selection process.

Thank you for your understanding. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Best,
Ms Chan

Hello everyone,

I can’t believe we are in Quarter 3 already! I’m grateful that we have been able to continue with band and music this year, though I must admit it’s been an interesting year only being able to see certain groups for a period of time!

I know it’s course selection time right now and I have had some inquiries about course offerings. The following band courses are being offered next year:

Concert Band 8
Concert Band 9
Concert Band 10

Concert Band 11/12 (Senior Concert Band) – X Block, off the time table

Jazz Band 8/9/10 – X Block, off the time table
Jazz Band 11/12 – X Block, off the time table

You must be enrolled in Concert Band to be in Jazz Band.

Music Composition – I have had some inquiries about this course as well. As we have never had enough students to have this as a stand alone course, this course in typically blended with Sound Recording or similar offerings, and has been taught by Mr. Bulger. The course involves learning to write and compose music, and doesn’t really require any extensive theory knowledge.

If you have any questions about course offerings in Band for next year, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I would like to thank all the students for their continued dedication and flexibility during this year.  I am hopeful that we will be able to return to concerts, performances, and other events in time, and I look forward to the day when we can share music with each other in a live setting again.

Best Regards,
Ms Chan
