Senior Music Tour Proposal Spring 2023
Dear Senior Band, Senior Jazz Band & Chamber Choir students & families,
As mentioned at the beginning of the school year, we are very much looking to returning to trips with our Argyle Music students as an important aspect of learning, community building, and reaching higher performance standards. Argyle’s Senior Concert Band, Senior Jazz Band, and Chamber Choir will be travelling to Edmonton’s Cantando Music Festival this year. Students will have the opportunity to perform in the beautiful Winspear Centre, attend workshops, work with experienced adjudicators, watch professionals perform, do some sight seeing and travelling in Edmonton, and further our bond as a music community.
The trip to the Edmonton Cantando Festival is scheduled for April 16 – 19, 2023. We will depart on Sunday morning and return home Wednesday evening. In exploring different options, we have decided on pursue a flight option for the trip. As costs have continued to rise over the past years, the cost per students for the Senior Music Tour is approximately $1,500 for a 4-day and 3-night trip (based on 70 participating students.
The cost may change slightly depending on final numbers). The fee includes the flight, coach fees, hotel accommodation, festival fees, sightseeing expenses, breakfast, one group diner, one Argyle T-Shirt or other apparel, and a premium insurance plan.
In accordance to district policy, school field trips are optional and students do not have to participate; however, as each member plays a crucial role in the ensemble, we hope that many, if not all, students will join us for this wonderful music experience.
With the recognition that costs for trips have gone up significantly, we encourage you to take advantage of the AMA Fundraising opportunities to raise funds that go towards your individual accounts. If you have participated in AMA fundraising opportunities in the past and would like to know how much money is in your account, please contact fundraising@argylemusic.ca for more information. Student scholarships are available from Ellison Travel, who we are working with in booking our tour to Edmonton. Please visit https://www.ellisontravel.com/ scholarships/ for more details. Finally, we are also working with our AMA (Argyle Music Association) to explore bursary options for students or families who are in need to financial support. More information regarding bursaries will be made available as we receive more information from the AMA.
At this time, we would like to gather your expression of interest in whether you (the student) plans to take part in the Senior Music Tour this year. Please respond to the Teams form indicating whether you will or will not participate (https://forms.office.com/r/ dmmELzZuPg). Once the trip has been approved by the school, students who wish to participate will receive the appropriate paperwork, and the first deposit will be due late November or early December. Thank you for your attention and please direct any questions to Ms. Diana Chan (dchan@sd44.ca) or Mr. Will Clements (wcournoyerclements@sd44.ca )
Sincerely,
Ms. Diana Chan & Mr. Will Clements
