Dear Argyle Music Community
Thanks for another wonderful and interesting year in music at Argyle. We are so fortunate to have so many supportive and enthusiastic students and parents present and involved in so many ways. Ms. Chan and I are very grateful to the members of the Argyle Music Association who give of themselves toward the life and betterment of our music program.
Unfortunately this year we were unable to do all that we hoped and we are ending “distanced”, so we wanted to acknowledge the “Graduating” AMA Executive volunteers: Heather Maconachie – President, Danielle Moore and Svetlana Sobelman – Fund Raising Coordinators, Heather Skuse – Travel Chair, Leslie Mak – Member at Large, Rocio Lopez – Uniforms. We are very thankful for their dedicated hours of service to the music program. We will miss you!!
We also want to thank all those staying on with the AMA, doing the work necessary to keep us moving forward. MANY THANKS to Dave Strilchuk – treasurer, Claire Arnold – secretary, Ruth Mitchell & Lisa Kury – Fund Raising, Liad Negev & Ken Bigelow – Argyle Music website, Ashmita Sisodraker – Cabaret Chair, Omar Dharamsi, Carolyn Grafton, Yvonne Strilchuk, – Members at Large and many others who assist in a variety of other capacities. Your presence and support are greatly appreciated. We look forward to working with you again next year.
It has been a challenging third term and we are so proud of the students for staying engaged and connected. We could not have predicted how the school year ended and it has been so bizarre. We wish all our music Grads the very best on their life’s journey and we wish you all a happy and safe summer. Looking forward to meeting again in a new format for the fall.
Frances Roberts – Choir & Strings teacher
Diana Chan – Band teacher

Hello Everyone,
The Argyle Music Awards have been an annual tradition to recognize students in our department that have demonstrated excellence in performance and musicianship or have volunteered to help with various activities within the department over the course of the year. The event is typically held in combination with our Year End Concerts which gives us an opportunity to celebrate each ensemble’s growth and achievement in the year as well.
Awards are always a challenging time for teachers, as we have so many exceptional students that we would like to recognize. Some of these decisions were extremely difficult to make, especially given the unique circumstances we are under right now, and challenges many may be facing at home during this time. While we take this time to congratulate and celebrate the award recipients, we must remember and acknowledge how each ensemble (and individuals within the ensemble) has grown over the course of the year. While we did not get the opportunity to celebrate our achievements as a group through our year end concert, we have had many fantastic performances over the course of the year that are worthy of celebrating.
With regards to Awards distribution this year, Mrs Roberts and I have considered different options that will allow us to acknowledge recipients, while distributing awards in a safe manner under our current circumstances. We have decided that awards will be distributed along with yearbook distributions this year in order to minimize the number of time students may have to travel to the school. While we acknowledge that this is a less personal way of celebrating that our usual tradition, we would need to consider the safety of the process during this time.
Recipients will receive their award when they arrive to collect their yearbook and other items in the Small Gym next week. Please refer to this school document for the date and times for distribution: Argyle Secondary schedule for June 22-26 2020
Mrs Roberts and I will either be in the small gym or the music wing during this last week. We hope to see many of you next week before we take off for the summer. The last few months have come with unique challenges, and we are extremely proud of the resilience and determination many of our students have continued to demonstrate during this time.
Try to find some time to learn a favourite song or find some way to continue making music over the summer!
Thank you again to all of you for the music that you’ve brought this year, and I hope you have a fantastic summer!
Regards,
Ms Chan & Mrs. Roberts

Argyle Music Cabaret – Online Auction May 4th to 9th
Argyle’s Music Department hosts an annual Cabaret event that showcases the incredible talents of Argyle music students and raises funds for graduating music student scholarships and bursaries. This special event was initially scheduled to take place on May 9th this year. Given the current situation we have had to cancel this year’s Cabaret Event.
The AMA (Argyle Music Association), however, would like to continue to support our music graduates by hosting an online silent auction, where proceeds will go towards scholarships and bursaries for our graduating music students.
The AMA Cabaret Night Silent Auction will be online this year and will run from
Monday, May 4, 2020 at 6am until Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 10:45pm.
To view the AMA Cabaret Night Silent Auction, hosted online at 32auctions please go to:
We hope you will take the time to check out our selections and place a bid to support our event. We are also accepting direct donations for this fundraiser.
This is a tough year for the grads, and we welcome any financial contributions so they can still obtain the scholarships from the AMA as they have in past years.
If you want to place a bid, you will have to create an account. All winning bids will be safely delivered to your home after payment via e-transfer. Deliveries are only available for North & West Vancouver Residents.
If you have any questions, please email fundraising@argylemusic.ca

April 1, 2020
Hello everybody! I hope you are all well and safe at home.
It is hard to believe that it was four weeks ago that we were ALL together celebrating, sharing and performing in our “ELEMENTS” concert at Mt Seymour United Church.
Wed. March 4th was a SPECIAL and joyful evening of music making, performance and I am so grateful to you for doing YOUR part so freely and passionately. It was a magical night!
I am sure many of you are wanting to be back at school (?), in choir/ strings – singing and playing music with your classmates and friends. Elyse and I are missing being back with you too. We will be connecting with you very soon, and should be in touch with you ALL over the coming week.
Even though we cannot resume as ensemble classes we are excited to be trying out new ways of continuing our music learning and connecting with you. Keep smiling, singing & playing!
I wanted to send a video of the final song from the concert “O SIEM” We are ALL FAMILY- as a tribute to the amazing Argyle Music family that we are all a part of (unfortunately the video I have is too large to send) . This song has a message for us all moving forward at this time. We are all connected and need to look after one another so please stay HOME and take care of yourself, this helps take care of everyone!
THANKS Mrs. Roberts & Elyse Kantonen
